Prof. Hongbin Ma

Beijing Institute of Technology, China

Biography:

Born in Zhengzhou City, Henan Province, China, in 1978, Hongbin Ma received B.Sc. from Zhengzhou University, China in 2001. He studied mathematics and control theory in the Key Laboratory of Systems and Control at Institute of Systems Science from 2001 to 2006, supervised by Professor Lei Guo. He obtained Ph.D from the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2006. He joined Temasek Laboratories, National University of Singapore in August 2006. Since August 2009, Prof. Ma has been a faculty member of the Institute of Navigation, Guidance and Control, School of Automation, Beijing Institute of Technology. His laboratory is named as the Laboratory of Intelligent Machinary, which is inspired by great scientist Alan Turing. His dissertation was focused on some problems on capability and limitation of feedback mechanism in dealing with uncertainties of some discrete-time control systems.

Prof. Ma's researches center on control theory and complex systems, especially focus on problems related to stability and stabilization of discrete-time dynamical systems, as well as related algorithm design and analysis. His previous work involved stochastic control systems, signal processing, adaptive estimation and control, (nonlinear) hybrid systems and dynamical networks. Various complexities or uncertainties of systems were main concern in his previous researches.

During his visit to Singapore, he was also interested in pursuit-evasion problems, which come from the background of guidance/interception, hide-and-seek games, etc. and has close connections with differential games, mobile robotics, computational geometry, decision theory and artificial intelligence.

Previously he was working in the Changjiang Scholar Innovation Group of Professor M. Y. Fu, in charge of a small group of teachers and students, focusing in the area of intelligent navigation. They are interested in academic research and engineering practice on unmanned ground vehicles equipped with technologies of intelligent navigation. Their self-dring vehicles ever win variour awards in various contests.

Now Prof. Ma has established a new Laboratory of Intelligent Machinary. They believe that intelligent machines can make the future better with their efforts and they aim to make contributions in designing and developing techniques of embedded intelligence for real applications and future disruptive innovations.

Most of his previous and current researches concern the big idea of learning or adaptation with mathematical algorithms and computer techniques. Prof. Ma is making continous efforts in cybernetics, mathematics, software, hardware. He hopes to make a difference to this colorful world.

Prof. Lounis Adouane (IEEE Member)

Université de Technologie de Compiègne (UTC), Compiegne, France

Biography:

Lounis Adouane (Member, IEEE) received the Ph.D. degree in automatic control from the FEMTO-ST Laboratory, ENSMM, France, in 2005, and the H.D.R. (habilitation to steer research in robotics) degree from Blaise Pascal University, in 2015. During his Ph.D. studies, he deeply investigated the field of mobile multi robot systems, especially those related to bottom-up and decentralized control architectures. In 2005, he joined the Ampere Laboratory, INSA Lyon, and he studied hybrid (continuous/discrete) control architectures applied to cooperative mobile robots arms. From 2006 to 2019, he was an Associate Professor with the Institut Pascal, Polytech Clermont-Ferrand. He is currently a Full Professor with the Heudiasyc, UMR 7253 CNRS/Universite de Technologie de Compiegne. From 2018 to 2019, he was the Head of ISPR Group (Images, Perception Systems and Robotics, 80 members), Institut Pascal. Since 2018, he is a member of the Technical Committee of IFAC–Intelligent Autonomous Vehicles and serves in the Editorial Board Member of Journal of Intelligent and Robotic Systems. He had the opportunity to visit during few months several institutions/laboratories, such as in 2009 LIST (Luxembourg), in 2014 Cranfield and Kingston universities (U.K), and in 2018 KIT (Germany). He is the author/coauthor of more than 100 refereed international articles and two books. His main research interests include planning and control of mobile robots/intelligent vehicles (autonomous and clean), decision-making under uncertainty, hybrid (continuous/discrete) and hybrid (reactive/cognitive) multi controller architectures, Lyapunov-based synthesis and stability, cooperative multi robot systems, artificial intelligence (e.g., MDP or MAS approaches), and energy management (e.g., optimal control or neuro-fuzzy approaches).

University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, China

Biography:

Hu Jiang is a native of Yuetang, Guangfeng Village, Nanshi Street, Dongyang City, Zhejiang Province. In 1992, he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Physics from Zhejiang Normal University, followed by a Master's degree in Celestial Mechanics from the Yunnan Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1995. He then pursued further education, yielding a Ph.D. from the Shanghai Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2002. Between 2003 and December 2005, Jiang served as an Associate Researcher at the Shanghai Institute of Microsystems and Information Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. From January 2006 to January 1, 2014, he was promoted to Researcher at the same institution. Subsequently, from 2014 to April 2018, he held the position of Researcher at the Shanghai Advanced Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
